Founder Profiles

Joseph Hei - CEO
As an engineer and product designer, Joseph has worked on products ranging from the award-winning Handspring Treo PDA phone, to beverage packaging for Pepsi. While at IDEO, Joseph generated key intellectual property for companies such as P&G, Steelcase, Cole Haan, Gatorade, and Avery. With a knack for bridging different disciplines such as design and ethnography, he was typically called on to lead and help projects early on with problem definition and blue-sky design exploration. Also, Joseph led IDEO U innovation workshops in which he guided executives from companies such as Nestle on how to apply design thinking to their business challenges. In order to continue his passion for teaching, and to contribute to a supportive community, he also teaches in the Product Design program at Stanford as part of the adjunct faculty.

Bryan White - COO
Product design is not just about meeting needs, its enabling exciting user experiences and emotions. From the IMac that floats effortlessly to the touch and promotes interaction, bathroom cleaning objects that bring in fun and whimsy, or office furniture that makes it seem like home, Bryan designs products that connect with their users.

Often this means bringing in new and novel materials, tapping into cutting edge manufacturing techniques and just spending time with users. His development work has resulted in over 15 patents pending in areas ranging from medical devices to office furniture to beverage packaging to children's product.
While at IDEO, Bryan led teams developing products for P&G, Apple Computer, Metro Furniture, Pepsi, and Seagate Technology.

Bryan has a BS in Product Design from Stanford and continues to teach both undergrads and grad students in the Product Design program.
